Technique Tuesday.... Stampin Up! Tutorial #18

I have a fun exciting box I want to show you how to make. I have to admit it is not my own design, I read about it months ago on brandyscards.com and have been meaning to do it until I saw the Friday Mash up Challenge this week. I was going to do FM136 but I don't own any Crushed Curry. So I had to go with the 3-D project only, bummer! Oh well I'm so excited, so let's get started.

I used the heavy card stock that Brandy recommends from the back of the DSP, I have been saving these for some reason and didn't know what until now!!! So you want to cut that paper down to 11" x 11". Next using a Simple Scored diagonal plate and starting at the top and scoring in a downward diagonal, score your card stock on a diagonal at 4.5" and 6.5". Keeping the paper where it's at on the left side of your simple scored, score your paper in a downward diagonal 4.5" and 6.5".

Next, flip your paper 90 degrees and your ready to add the next set of score line.  Again using a Simple Scored diagonal plate and starting at the top and scoring in a downward diagonal, score your card stock on a diagonal at 3.5″ and 5.5″.  keep the paper where it's at on the left side of your simple scored, score your paper in a downward diagonal 3.5″ and 5.5″. I would show you a picture but it's really hard to see on the white paper.

Now you want to find the coated side of your card stock if you have one and use StazOn black ink and the stamp set of your choice to begin stamping your decorative box.(You can use colored ink pads but you will have to walk away from your project after stamping for about 10 to 20 minutes to allow it time to dry before moving on) You have 4 larger triangles… find the two smaller ones and start at one size and make your way all the way across the box.   Its ok to stamp over the score lines.  This will give your box a professional feel as the image wraps around the box.   No fold and prep your box. I choose to use Daydream Medallions.

You’ll want to trim all the tiny corners… there are 8 total. You will also want to cut your flaps as shown.

Determine which end of your box is the bottom flap and trim the little corner off at 3/4″ so its neat and tailored when opened.  Now your ready to assemble your box. The black piece for the top flap of your box and the bottom flap of your box measures 6.5" x 5.5" and you score the 6.5" side down at 1 3/8" this will cover your top flap and bottom flap of your envelop.
Now you are going to want to use sticky strip to adhere the top of your 6.5" x 1 3/8" to the box and bottom flap to the box. You can now trim away the excess paper.

Now that you have your top and bottom flaps covered you will want to assemble your box with sticky strip as well to hold it all together. Don't force each connection, make sure they are straight and lay together nicely. You can see by this photo that I cut the flap so the fold into the box.

Now using one of the pieces of card stock you cut off when making your 11" x 11" box, you will want to use that to add a little something extra to the box. You can leave it with out it but I like the finishing touch. I adhered it with sticky strip.

Viola!!! We have a gorgeous looking box that will hold up to 8 cards with envelopes. Great idea for your secret Santa, Christmas gifts!!! I just love it!!!
